Indian film actress, singer and songwriter, Priyanka Chopra, famous for her Miss World title in 2000 and her Bollywood career, has striked a US record deal and she’s currently preparing her debut studio album. Her very first single is titled “In My City” and features will.i.am; the song is a typical RedOne banger, but thankfully it finds the producer on a good day. The “c’mon”s brought Rihanna’s S&M in my mind for a bit, but they sound a little similar only at that part. India loved the track, making it sell more than 130.000 copies in its first week and top the pop chart of the country, receiving a triple platinum certification. In America, it managed to sell 5.000 copies in its first week of release. The music video is futuristic with a 90’s twist, all fresh in a colorful, funky and fun way. She’s down for some serious choreography in it, which adds to the dance cut and accompanying clip. US will get her album through Interscope, while the rest of the world will see it released under Island records. It’s time for an artist from India who mixed that tribal sound with today’s pop music to make it big. I mean, no one can doubt Selena Gomez’s effort with “Come & Get It”, but a real Indian Queen has yet to make a name for herslef. I’m rooting for both Priyanka and the girl who’s in The Voice UK. Let’s see if they actually make it happen!
